Las Rías Baixas, que se extienden por toda la costa atlántica
de Galicia, desde el cabo de Finisterre hasta la frontera portuguesa, además de
la riqueza pesquera y la producción de mariscos que proporcionan las miles de
bateas ancladas en sus aguas, que constituyen una auténtica despensa para el
consumo nacional y la exportación, son uno de los destinos turísticos más
completos para el disfrute de las vacaciones y el tiempo libre. De las seis
rías catalogadas como tales, la más extensa e importante de todas, tanto desde
el punto de vista productivo (concentra más del 70 % de todas las bateas
instaladas) como del turístico, es la de Arosa, situada a horcajadas entre la provincia de
La Coruña y Pontevedra. En sus aguas se encuentran numerosas islas e islotes, entre las que
destacan la isla de La Toja y la de Arosa, que, a su vez, da el nombre a esta
ría.
Aunque, por su extensión, la Ría de Arosa tiene numerosas y
vistosas poblaciones ribereñas, las más interesantes, turísticamente hablando,
se concentran en su costa sur. Por su importancia, y clasificadas de norte a
sur, podemos destacar las siguientes: Carril
(pequeña y agradable localidad donde se puede disfrutar de excelentes pescados
y mariscos, particularmente conocida por sus excelentes almejas; quizás las
mejores del mundo); Villagarcía de Arosa
(población algo bulliciosa, muy apta para los usos y costumbres de nuestra
actual juventud, aunque no para el descanso y relax que buscan las personas de
mayor edad); Villanueva de Arosa
(localidad más pequeña y mucho más tranquila que Villagarcía y adecuada para
pasar unos días de descanso); Cambados
(la tierra por excelencia del vino Albariño; tranquila, mayor y con más posibilidades
que Villanueva e ideal como base de partida para visitar toda la zona, además
de disponer de Parador de Turismo con buenas instalaciones y magníficamente
situado); El Grove, con el apéndice de
la Isla de La Toja (posiblemente la catedral del marisco, con la mayor
concentración de restaurantes de toda Galicia, aunque con un tráfico rodado que
roza lo imposible. Lo ideal para visitar el Grove es alojarse en alguno de los
buenos hoteles situados en la propia Isla de La Toja y utilizar el servicio de taxi,
o, dada la corta distancia y lo agradable del paseo, desplazarse simplemente a
pie).
Después de lo expuesto, y si aún no conoce alguno de los
lugares anteriormente mencionados, mi recomendación es que no deje de
tenerlos en cuenta a la hora de planificar su próximo viaje a la zona. Seguro
que no se sentirá defraudado.

The Rias Baixas, which are
spread throughout the Atlantic coast of Galicia, from Cape Finisterre to the
Portuguese border, in addition to the richness of fishing and shellfish
production provided by thousands of rafts anchored in its waters, which
constitute a real pantry for domestic consumption and export, are one of the
most complete destinations for holiday enjoyment and leisure. Of the six
estuaries classified as such, the largest and most important of all, both from
the point of view of production (focuses over 70% of all installed rafts) and
the tourism, is Arosa, located between the province of La Coruña and Pontevedra. In their water
there are numerous islands and islets, among which are the island of La Toja
and Arosa, which, in turn, gives its name to this estuary.
Although,
by its extension, the Ría of Arosa has numerous coastal populations, the most
interesting, touristically speaking, are concentrate on its southern coast. By
its importance, ordered from north to south, we highlight the following: Carril (a little and nice town where
you can enjoy good fish and shellfish, particularly known for its excellent clams, perhaps the
best of the world); Villagarcia de Arosa
(population somewhat noisy, very suitable for the uses and customs of our
current youth, but not for rest and
relaxation seeking by older people); Villanueva
de Arosa (a smaller town and much quieter that Villagarcía, appropriate to
spend a few days off); Cambados (the
land par excellence of Albariño wine, a quiet town and more tourist that
Villanueva, ideal as a base from which to visit entire area, besides having a
Parador with good facilities and a fantastic position); The Grove, with appendix of the island of La Toja (possibly the
cathedral of shellfish, with the highest concentration of restaurants of all
Galicia, but with a traffic that borders on the impossible. The ideal to visit
the Grove is to stay at one of the good hotels located in the island of La Toja
and use the taxi service, or, given the short distance and the nice walk, only
walking).
All
above, combined with the excellent weather that usually enjoyed throughout the
area during the summer months, and the good welcome that this people usually
dispense to the visitor, combines attractive enough to consider a visit to this
earth as a good option. My recommendation, without doubt, is
that take them into account when planning your next trip. Sure you will
not be disappointed.
