La ciudad de París, con una población que supera los 12 millones de habitantes, sigue manteniendo el privilegio de ser el destino turístico más popular del mundo, en la que se dan cita cada año más de 43 millones de visitantes extranjeros. La torre Eiffel, el Arco del Triunfo, la Avenida de los Campos Elíseos, La Catedral de Notre Dame, la Basílica del Sacré Coeur, La Ópera Garnier, Los Inválidos, el Panteón, el Barrio de Montmatre y el Louvre (el museo más famoso y visitado del mundo), entre otros, son alicientes más que suficientes para justificar una visita a esta urbe que, dividida por el largo meandro que forma el río Sena, presenta una variada oferta turística para todo tipo de bolsillos, desde el más modesto, al de mayor poder adquisitivo.

Además de la obligada visita a los monumentos más emblemáticos de París, incluidos los románticos paseos por las orillas del Sena, y siempre que el presupuesto lo permita, es recomendable la asistencia a los espectáculos que ofrecen el Lido y el Moulin Rouge, preferiblemente con la opción de cena más revista; eso sí, realizando previamente la reserva y garantizando una mesa preferente. Seguro que el esfuerzo económico merecerá la pena. Igualmente es recomendable programar un recorrido por el Río Sena, en uno de los barcos en los que se ofrece el complemento del almuerzo o la cena (yo recomendaría fundamentalmente el almuerzo). En este caso también es muy conveniente disponer de una reserva previa y elegir uno de los mejores emplazamientos en el barco, lo que le garantizará el máximo disfrute del crucero. Seguro que, de todo ello, se llevarán un agradable recuerdo que permanecerá en el tiempo.

En el obligado paseo por Montmartre, aprovechando la visita a la Basílica del Sacré Coeur, no se olviden de girar una visita por la plaza de la Tertre y sus calles adyacentes, donde, sin duda, encontrarán el mejor ambiente del barrio, en el que el tiempo parece haberse detenido con el trascurso de los años. Y ya que nos encontramos en la zona no se puede dejar de hacer un paseo a pié por el Boulevard de Clichy, entre la plaza del mismo nombre y Pigalle. Tendrán la ocasión de ver un París diferente.

Si el tiempo de estancia en París se lo permite, no se arrepentirá de dedicar un día a visitar la Ciudad de las Ciencias, en la Villette, donde no puede perderse la ocasión de asistir a una de las proyecciones en La Geode, una original y espectacular sala de proyección esférica, con sistema IMAX, de 36 metros de diámetro, con una pantalla de 1.000 metros cuadrados. Una experiencia tridimensional única. Para acudir a la Villette, puede aprovechar a hacer el crucero que sale del muelle Anatole, próximo a la pasarela de Solferino, frente al museo D’Orsay, el cual, tras un corto paseo por el Rio Sena, penetra en el puerto del Arsenal y recorre el Canal de San Martín hasta llegar a La Dársena de La Villette. Vivirá la experiencia de salvar un desnivel de 25 metros, utilizando para ello nueve esclusas, y navegar por un largo túnel de más de 2 kilómetros, además de atravesar jardines, artísticos puentes y poéticos paseos. Curiosamente, este canal que fue construido entre los años 1802 a 1825, a iniciativa de Napoleón Bonaparte, para resolver el abastecimiento de agua potable a la capital, fue financiado mediante la creación de un nuevo impuesto sobre el vino.

Por último, las visitas al Palacio de Versalles y al Louvre podrán ser el colofón de una fructífera estancia en París. Habrá que tener en cuenta que la visita a Versalles supone la dedicación de una jornada completa, y que al Louvre habrá que acudir con un plan de visita programado y estricto, o sea, decidir de antemano lo que se desea ver en función del tiempo que se piense dedicar, dado que, en caso contrario, se necesitarían muchas jornadas para una visita completa.

El alojamiento, obviamente, se elegirá a la medida de las posibilidades económicas de cada uno, pero teniendo siempre presente que no se puede bajar de un nivel de 4 estrellas, si se quiere tener un mínimo de comodidad. En cuanto al transporte en París, el metro es el medio más recomendable. Los taxis solo en caso de emergencia, teniendo siempre en cuenta que en este sector no existe el concepto de la ética, y la educación brilla por su ausencia.
