Baiona es un bonito y acogedor municipio de la provincia de Pontevedra, recogido en una pequeña bahía de la ría de Vigo, que cuenta con cerca de XIX siglos de historia, ideal para pasar unos días de descanso o vacaciones, donde se puede disfrutar de un clima agradable en un magnífico entorno natural. El pueblo de Baiona tiene un típico casco antiguo, con estrechas callejas, soportales de piedra y casas blasonadas que, dentro de un gran ambiente marinero, recuerdan su época de esplendor medieval. Amén de por su carácter eminentemente turístico, Baiona es también conocida por haber sido el primer lugar de Europa que recibió noticias del viaje de Colón, en su aventura del descubrimiento del Nuevo Mundo, por haber arribado a su puerto la carabela “La Pinta”, el 1 de marzo de 1493, al mando de Martín Alonso Pinzón. Una réplica exacta de esta carabela permanece anclada en su puerto, cuya visita es obligada para todos aquellos que recalan por estas tierras.

Entre los muchos lugares que merece la pena visitar en Baiona destaca la fortaleza amurallada de Monterreal, situada en una pequeña península, batida por el mar, donde actualmente se ubica el parador de turismo Conde de Gondomar, lugar muy recomendado para quienes busquen un alojamiento de calidad. En esta península no se puede dejar de recorrer el paseo de Monte Boi: una preciosa senda de unos 2 kilómetros que circunvala la muralla, desde la que se puede apreciar el espléndido entorno marítimo del municipio.

Otros lugares de interés turístico, aparte de los anteriormente mencionados, e igualmente recomendados, serían: “La Virgen de la Roca”, en la que hay que subir a la barca que, a 15 metros de altura, sostiene en su mano derecha, desde la que se ofrecen magníficas vistas; “El Parque de la Palma”, situado entre la muralla del castillo de Monterreal y la carretera que conduce a La Guarda; “El Paseo Marítimo” que, sin duda, es uno de los más atractivos bulevares costeros de todas las villas de la provincia; “El Puente de Ramallosa”, uno de los más hermosos de estilo medieval que se conservan en Galicia, y que, cruzando el río Miñor, divide los términos municipales de Baiona y Nigrán; “Santa María de Baiona”, antigua iglesia Colegiata del siglo XIII, de estilo ojival románico; “Crucero de la Santísima Trinidad”, iglesia del siglo XV, con cúpula renacentista y crucero gótico; “Capilla de Santa Liberata”, de estilo italiano plateresco, consagrada en honor a la mártir, hija de Baiona, que fue la primera mujer crucificada en el mundo; “Monte de A Groba”, el punto más alto del municipio (648 metros), con el mirador de O Cotelliño, desde donde se puede disfrutar de magníficos paisajes y extraordinarias vistas; “Faro Silleiro”, situado en el cabo del mismo nombre, con interés por sus vistas y las ruinas de una antigua batería de cañones de la armada.

Aparte de la belleza que atesora todo el municipio, con su particular y agradable microclima, y el carácter acogedor de sus habitantes, otro punto fuerte a destacar es su gastronomía. Tanto la calidad de los productos de la tierra, como los excelentes pescados y mariscos que proceden de su ría, hacen que visitar sus numerosos restaurantes, esparcidos por el Paseo Marítimo y todo el casco antiguo, para cumplir con el obligado deber de alimentarnos, se convierta en todo un placer, que, unido al resto de alicientes, hace que todos nos hagamos la promesa de volver.

Bayonne is a nice and cozy town of the province of Pontevedra (Spain), located in a small bay of the Vigo estuary, which has about nineteenth centuries of history, ideal for spending a few days off, or vacations, and where you can enjoy a nice weather in a magnificent natural setting. The village of Bayonne has a typical old town, with narrow streets, stone arches and emblazoned houses, that, within a large and authentic marine atmosphere, remembers its heyday medieval. Besides of its eminently tourist, Bayonne is also known for being the first place, in all Europe, where was received the first news of Columbus's voyage, on your adventure of discovery of the New World, having arrived at this port the ship "The Pinta", on 1 March 1493, commanded by Martin Alonso Pinzon. An exact replica of this caravel remains anchored in your harbor, whose visit is a must for all those who come through these lands.

Among the many places that are worth to visit in Bayonne, highlights the walled fortress of Monterreal, located on a small peninsula, whipped by the sea, where now stands the Parador Conde de Gondomar, highly recommended for those seeking accommodation quality. In this peninsula can not be left of to walk for the promenade de Monte Boi: a beautiful trail that encircles Montreal's wall, with about 2 km. of length, from which you can appreciate the wonderful seascape of this municipality.

Other places of tourist interest, apart from those mentioned above, and that can be, equally recommended, are: "Our Lady of the Rock", in which you have to climb to the boat that, about 15 meters high, holds in her right hand, from which offer you great views; "The Park of the Palma ", located between the wall Monterreal castle and the road leading to the Guardian; "The Maritime Promenade" which, undoubtedly, is one of the most attractive coastal boulevards of all villages of the province; "Ramallosa Bridge", one of the most beautiful bridges of medieval style that are preserved in Galicia, which crosses the river Miñor and divides the villages of Bayonne and Nigrán; "Santa Maria de Bayonne" old Collegiate Church, of century XIII, of Romanesque style; "Cruise of the Holy Trinity", a church of century XV, with Renaissance domed and Gothic cruise; "Chapel of Santa Liberata", plateresco Italian style, consecrated in honor of the martyr, daughter of Bayonne, that was the first woman in the world that have been crucified; "Mount of A. Grova", the highest point of the town (648 meters), with the gazebo of O Cotelliño, from where you can enjoy magnificent scenery and stunning views; "Silleiro Faro", located on the headland of the same name, interesting for its views and the ruins of an old gun battery of the army.

Aside from the beauty that hoards the whole municipality, with its unique and pleasant microclimate, and the welcoming nature of its people, another strong point to note is its gastronomy. Both the quality of the products of the earth, as the excellent fish and seafood coming from his estuary, make that the visit to the many restaurants scattered along the seafront and around the old town, to meet the required duty of our feeding, is becomes a pleasure, which, coupled with other incentives, forces all us to make a promise to return.
